History

ISSSEEM: From its Founding into the Future:

In January of 1989 Dr. Carol Schneider and Dr. T.M. Srinivasan met with Dr. Elmer Green to propose the founding of ISSSEEM.  They agreed to publish a subtle-energies journal and called upon Steven Schwartz to act as the founding editor.  Penny Hiernu agreed to become the Executive Director of the Society.  ISSSEEM was incorporated in Colorado in October of 1989.  Soon after, Steven Fahrion replaced Steven Schwartz as editor of the Journal.

The Society went on to enjoy twenty years of successful operation—hosting Annual Conferences beginning in 1991 in Boulder and later in Denver, and publishing both the quarterly Bridges magazine and the peer-reviewed scholarly journal Subtle Energies and Energy Medicine. ISSSEEM thus served as a key focus for the growing interest in both subtle energy science and energy medicine as the world transitioned to the Age of the Internet.

However, following the Conference in June of 2011 and the U.S. economic downturn, ISSSEEM found it advisable to cease most of its publishing and other activities. Between June 2011 and June 2013, with the help of its acting CEO, Scott Anderson and the Yoga Science Foundation, the archive of the SEEM journal and Bridges Magazine were made accessible to the public on the ISSSEEM website through the Open Access Project.

ISSSEEM operated under its own charter until June of 2013 when it became the International Research Division of Holos University, ISSSEEM will retain its original name and goals.

The ISSSEEM website will be maintained with its valuable archive legacy.  The site will keep its current look and feel under the site revision underway.

ISSSEEM continues to publish a Magazine and will be launching a new format for the magazine that will include both stories of interest and research.

Since the Society’s inception, many generous and exceptional people have served on ISSSEEM’s Board, as officers, as editors, as presenters, as program chairs of its annual conference, and members have generously contributed to the financial support of ISSSEEM and its goals.  All of you who have been involved in this support are the “legacy community” of ISSSEEM, which we hope will continue forward with strength into the future.

Holos University is grateful for the opportunity to serve the ISSSEEM community and the Holos community in these ways.
